Hightime Rebellion - Sail
Sail is the first single released by the group from their upcoming album. Recorded early 2012, the recording features intricacies that isn’t found in their previous recordings and a warm, spacey depth of sound that envelopes the listeners, the group’s search for a mature pop sound can very much be heard in Sail.
Sail isn’t actually a new song, the group have performed it in numerous occasions. This recorded version bears many new elements, though, and you can really sense the group experimenting, and this is where much of Sail’s charm lies (aside, of course, from it being an excellent song in the first place). Enjoy the music
Starred - No Good
Brooklyn-via-L.A. outfit Starred’s singer Liza Thorn was in a band with former Girlsfrontman Christopher Owens called— wait for it— Curls. Even without that connection, Starred’s debut single, “No Good”, appears to emerge from the same bottomless reserve of bedside longing that gave us “Hellhole Ratrace” four years ago. It’s the sound of two people almost willing a song to life in real time as Matt Koshak’s spare guitar figures nudge heavy-lidded sighs out of Thorn, the rest filled out by pockets of vast and lonely space. There’s plenty of Mazzy in Starred, but what’s striking about “No Good” is how unlike most of Starred’s peers, it can be simultaneously loud as hell and dead quiet (depending on what volume you play it at). It’s a song that’s capable of filling just about any space you put it in, its mood evoking the type of glam-rock where the focus is on being wasted as opposed to gettingwasted.
Get ready for Brazilian electronic pop group Bonde do Rolê’s second album, Tropicalbacanal; it’s out July 31 via Mad Decent (pushed back from a since-scrapped June release date). Here’s the Das Racist-featuring “Bang”. The whole record was produced by Diplo, along with Poolside’s Filip Nikolic.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra - I’ll Come Back For You
Plenty more treasures are set to come as part of the Adult Swim’s summer singles series, but first up is this disjointed exactly-three-minutes psych-pop beauty, full of Wire-y guitar lines and an insistent, instantly likeable groove.
Dialog Dini Hari - Lengkung Langit
Directed by: Aji Mahareshi | Edited by: Ridwan Rudianto
Hei selamat pagi, matahari
Cahayamu menembus hati
Pancarona, paras kirana
Hati senang sedih sirna
Selamat jalan awan hitam
Kenangan kelam berangsur karam
Glora pagi menyongsong hari
Hati riang sedih pergi
reff
Padamu langit
Tak terukur indahnya cinta darimu
Seirama detak jatungku memanggilmu
Oh padamu langit
Menatapmu bersemi damai terdalam
Merawat rindu cinta yang berurai airmata
Gurau takdir, Maharencana
Gubah bathin, tentram raharja
Semestaku, Rumahku
Sajakku adalah doaku
Engkaulah pustaka abadi… abadi

The Antlers - Drift Drive
It’s becoming clear that “Rolled Together” wasn’t just the centerpiece of the Antlers’ brooding Burst Apart— it was the turning point for their artistic trajectory. The gorgeous, nearly wordless bit of Sigur Rós-inspired swooning provided an exit strategy for a band that was running on self-immolation. After Hospice and Burst Apart, how much more emotional trauma could frontman Pete Silberman endure, really? “Drift Dive” leads off Antlers’ newUndersea EP as an indication that they’re all in a much better place. Silberman’s pillowy falsetto, Hawaiian pedal steel and brass all sways with a languid, breeze-blown rhythm, captured in humid production. Silberman’s sparse words barely register here and that’s a promising thing for Antlers, as “Drift Dive” proves they can be as demonstrative and gripping on a pure sonic level as they are lyrically.
